Our Master Artist Series returns with the wonderful Frank Youngman and Seth Bernard. The week kicks off with a Live at the Fold concert on Thursday, October 22nd at 6 pm, followed by two workshops on Saturday, October 24th. We will kick off the workshops at 11 am with a Singer/Songwriter Workshop, followed at 1230pm with a Songs of Water Workshop. Join us on May 21st at the Hiawatha Fold for the last Songwriter’s Woodshed of 2026! We are thrilled to have Sam Luna as our special guest host. A mini-concert, an open mic, & workshop in one. Each month, a guest songwriter/band shares a song, their creative process, and a sing-along to start the open mic. March 21st: Winter Roots Festival: History of Protest Songs Workshop
As the third event of Winter Roots Festival, Brian Wallen and Erin Colwitz will be holding a workshop on Saturday, March 21st, from 11 am-12 pm at The Hiawatha Fold on the history of protest songs. Dr. Erin Colwitz (Professor of Music, NMU) and singer/songwriter Brian Wallen will offer a historical perspective on protest music and its impact, as well as current examples and songwriting tips for participants interested in writing their own protest songs. Donations encouraged!
