Live at the Fold: August Concerts

August 13th, Hiawatha Music Co-Op is thrilled to have Kitty Donohoe as our first Live at the Fold concert of the month! A bit about Kitty: Ann Arbor-based songwriter and Michigan Emmy recipient Kitty Donohoe is not an Irish or Celtic singer, but she clearly draws from that part of her heritage, as well as her American roots, as an artist. Iconic WFMT-Chicago folk dj Rich Warren calls Kitty “far above and beyond most singersongwriters.” She writes music that has been called “earthy, luminous and compelling” (The Weekender) and she’s been praised in the press equally for her voice, her musicality, and her songwriting. Sing Out!, one of the oldest and most respected folk music magazines in the industry, says that Kitty is “ one of the rare singer-songwriters to sensuously weave words and melody into a strong and mezmerizing fabric.”

Our second Live at the Fold concert will be held on August 27th and will feature Randy Seppala aka Da Bones Man, and Rev Robert Reynolds, Mississippi Delta Blues Guitarist. 

Rev Robert Reynolds and Randy met 18 years ago while playing in the street at Juke Joint Fest in Clarksdale, Mississippi, in April, and later that year in October at King Biscuit Blues Festival in Helena, Arkansas. They have played together whenever they have an opportunity ever since at festivals, juke joints, house parties, concerts, bars, and restaurants. Rev Robert spends a good deal of time touring in England and Europe and other parts of the world and bases out of Clarksdale when he is in this country. They are often booked as Pre-War blues, but actually play eclectic music including Ragtime, Raggae, Nolan’s Jazz,  Calypso, Caribbean, Country, and more.

Both shows are $5 for Hiawatha Members and $10 for Non-Members. Tickets at the door.
