Hiawatha brings master artist Si Kahn to Marquette! Save the dates! Sept 13-14th
August 21, 2018
Hiawatha Music Co-op brings world renown singer, songwriter, Si Kahn to Marquette! Sing-a-long, Songwriting Workshop and Concert!
In a world rife with many talented songwriters, Si Kahn stands alone. And his deeply thoughtful, elegantly simple, sometimes majestic, often achingly moving and always hard-hitting songs have stood, and will continue to stand, the test of time. –Dave Higgs, Bluegrass News
Thursday, Sept 13th, 6-8 pm at the Hiawatha Office, Village Shopping Center 1015 N. Third Street:
SOUTHERN CIVIL RIGHTS AND LABOR SONGS SINGALONG: Using a songbook Si Kahn put together many years ago, we’ll sing the great songs of the Southern Civil Rights and labor movements and share the stories behind them. You can even take the songbook home with you and, if you’d like, add your own favorite songs. Si will even send you an electronic version so you don’t need to retype it, even though typing is a good way to strengthen your picking fingers. Instruments are welcome.
Friday, September 14th, 1-3 pm in the Shiras Room PWPL:
SONGWRITING SYMPOSIUM: What are the questions you’ve always had about songwriting but were afraid (or too smart or too proud) to ask? Here’s your chance! In this democratic discussion facilitated by Si Kahn, we’ll take turns asking questions, and then compare notes (including musical ones) so we can come up with multiple hopefully useful answers. Please note (there’s that word again!): This “Songwriting Symposium” is about the art and craft of songwriting, not about issues like copyright and how to get Beyoncé or Lady Gaga to record your latest ballads.
Friday, September 14th 7-9pm in the Shiras Room at PWPL:
Concert – Enjoy Si Kahn at his finest hour, singing and playing and entertaining with his powerful voice $5 donation at the door, no advance sales
