Festival Camping and parking

July 22-24, 2022

Camping during the Festival -If you have your camping tags and wristbands, please enter the “Back Gate” on Enterprise Drive off Wright Street.   There is no need to go to the Gate Ticket Tent!  Temporary parking passes will be available to you at Back Gate to unload, then drive your car to one of the FREE parking lots for the weekend.

For our patrons with special needs – Please contact our office 906-226-8575 for assistance if you have special camping accommodation needs for a member of your group.  We are happy to help identify the best campsite for you.  All campsites are flat ground, partial grass, partial dirt with in-ground fire pits.  Area A has paved pads, electric, water, and full hook-up, Area B has dirt pads and electric, and Area C is tent only, no electric. There are barrier free bathrooms in Area A and Area B that are part of the Tourist Park Campground.  In addition, Hiawatha provides barrier free portages-johns throughout the Festival grounds. If you need a transport from your campsite to the Main Stage or workshop area, please speak with the volunteers at the Info Tent to make arrangements for a Hospitality-Ride on one of our golf-carts.

You can purchase a Camping Tag for one of the general Camping AREAS.  You will NOT be assigned a specific campsite, only a specific AREA in which to camp.   When the gates open on Friday at 1pm, it is OPEN CAMPING!  We all ‘squeeze please’ to make room for everyone!  Please do not circle ’round your campsite and waste space!  We believe we can fit every tent, screen room, pop up, truck camper, 5th wheel, camper and RV in if we all use our space in a friendly and welcoming manner!

You must purchase a weekend Festival ticket in order to purchase a Camping Tag.

Know the length of your camper!

Here is our new scale:

$30 – all tents, screen rooms

SOLD OUT – $35 – camping units – pop ups, Rpods, any trailer, up to 24 feet long ( do NOT include tongue/towing package when determining length)

SOLD OUT -$45 – camping units – RV’s, any trailer, bus, etc longer than 24 feet ( do NOT include tongue/towing package when determining length) allow you to to camp for the ENTIRE WEEKEND – Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights.  You must leave the park by 12 noon on Monday.

Purchase a Camping Tag if you: are a registered Class A, B, C RV or a manufactured camper or are camping in a tent.

When gates open at 1pm on Friday, Campground Ushers will help you find a campsite in your Area.  You are NOT guaranteed a specific campsite.  The number on your camping tag is only for office use.  Please proceed to your Area and meet some new friends!  Everyone please “Squeeze Please”! Do not waste space and please take your vehicles to the free parking at the Kauffman Sports Complex on Co Rd 550 so we have more room for camping OR the NMU Public Safety parking lot on Sugarloaf Drive OR Lot 14 on NMU campus, just south of the Wright Street/Sugarloaf Drive roundabout.

We do not take possession of  this parking lot until 8am on Friday, July 22.  It will not be accessible to anyone before that.  There is NO overnight camping prior to Friday for the Hiawatha Festival anywhere in the area.  Please do not park on Sugarloaf Dr, Co Rd 550, Wright Street, or any other street in the area.  Here is a list of other campgrounds to stay in early in the week.

Parking at the Festival – By now you have all heard that the Jacobetti Center at NMU is closed for renovations.  We have rented the parking lot just north of that lot.  It is called the Kauffman Sports Complex.  See map below.  Print a copy to bring with you to help you get around.

Please take your car away!  Hiawatha cannot emphasize this enough.  With more large RV’s and campers, and larger vehicles, we are packed in.  Please take your vehicle to the designated off site parking lots where you can park all weekend FOR FREE!!!  We have shuttles that take you back and forth if you want a ride, or you can get a quick 10 minute walk in on your own.
